Additional Activities
Coming soon to Maria Lake!

Bird Watching:  Southern Colorado and Maria Lake are a paradise for those who love to watch water birds, ducks, geese, cormorants, and blue heron, to name a few.  You will also be able to see birds of prey, including golden eagles, bald eagles and numerous species of hawks.  Then of course, you will observe numerous birds, such as swallows,  drawn to the lake because of the constant hatches that occur. The songs of meadowlarks, red and yellow wing blackbirds will lift your spirits while you fish or enjoy the scenery. Bring your binoculars and your identification book when you come because you are about to see the birds of the air in numbers that are second to none in Colorado.

Sporting Clays:  The Sporting Clays course is in the design phase and planned to be implemented in the near future.  It blends the natural terrain of the range with a challenging course to give even the most ardent sporting clay enthusiast a great round of clays.

Gun Range:  Also in the near future, the Maria Lake gun range will be available with benches and target sets at 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, and 500-yards. Your own personal range assures utmost safety in our view and you can take all the time you need for sight adjustment, powder and bullet results recordation, etc.  Bring your guns along to sight them in for the upcoming big game season or just to plink a few hundred rounds.  There is no better way for a parent to teach gun safety and gun handling than in an environment such as this.

Bird Farm:   Maria Lake plans to have over 1000 pheasant, chukar and quail to be raised and released for your hunting pleasure.  Watch for details on this website in the near future for additional information.

Wind Sail: Maria Lake boasts of one of the best private windsailing opportunities in the state.  Whether you enjoy the individualism of a board or the company of a partner in your small sailing vessel, you will find the combination of wind and water are to your liking.

Waterfowl Hunting:  Numerous ducks and geese inhabit the lake year round.  Our environment produces some of the finest waterfowl hunting in southern Colorado.  Whether you like to hunt geese or the numerous species of duck, you and your hunting partners will enjoy the lake, along with your favorite retriever at your side.  Hunt from one of our blinds on the lake or the drainage pond on the south side of the lake.  You will have daily limits in time to get your fly line wet in the early afternoon.
